Burundi Free Methodist Church partners with International Child Care Ministries (ICCM) to support children physically, emotionally, spiritually and socially. The impact of the sponsorship continues to be manifested in the daily lives of Burundian children.

Here is a story from Ninette, an alumni of the Burundi sponsorship program.

Ninette with her family

Ninette is from in a large family of 8 children. She lost her father during the 1993 civil war, when she was just a few months old.  “When I reached the 6th grade, doors were opened, and I got a scholarship to help me until I finished secondary school. At secondary school, I was trained in hotel care, and in 2014 I got a short term job in the hotel,” she says. The way workers were treated at the hotel was deplorable. There was no contract, no worker’s protections, no medical insurance, and the salary was very small. After that experience, Ninette committed to pursue university studies in business and management.

As Ninette finished university, she discussed with her husband the life challenges that they were facing. They decided to sell their property from the pig breeding project sponsored by ICCM, and with the $421.00 started their own small business. Today, Ninette is the owner of the Iranzi Multiservices Company (IMC) which clean offices, homes and provides gardening services. Her company currently provides jobs for 19 employees, including ten other women!

“I had an objective to create my own enterprise with two purposes: to advocate for oppressed workers and employ others. Today my goal is achieved!” says Ninette.

We give glory to God for ICCM alumni who are now serving in their country! Sponsorships and local projects such as animal breeding help to provide schooling, income, and other opportunities for people like Ninette.
