Neddy is ICCM Regional Coordinator for Ethiopia, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Recently, Neddy was able to visit Canada, spending time with the Canadian staff as well as speaking in churches about ICCM projects. Here is what she says about the importance of sponsorship for protecting children from vulnerabilities:
“We cannot ignore the need for sponsorship when dealing with child vulnerabilities. It is because of the risk that vulnerabilities pose for children that we must act. With sponsorship, we try to put in place systems, opportunities and ways to minimize harm on children. Child sponsorship enables children to go to school, get a healthy environment to thrive, eat a healthy meal, learn the love of Jesus and be shielded from social ills like female genital mutilation (FGM),child labor, early marriages, exploitation, poverty, malnutrition, deception, trafficking, child abuse, among other vulnerabilities.”
“When you sponsor a child, you are giving them a lifeline away from such vulnerabilities. Sponsorship makes lifelong changes to a child and when they graduate, they in turn impact their communities with the changes they received along the way.”
