It is a pleasure to hear and witness the gratitude expressed by children who were sponsored in past years. The impact of ICCM speaks louder than words.
David Barekebavuge is a retired catechist. He and his wife are both farmers living in Shoma, in the Gitega District of Burundi. David had three sons: Zebedee, Marc, and Jeredie, who were each sponsored through ICCM at different times between 1986 and 2016. The following is the story of Marc’s experience in the ICCM program.
“My name is Marc Niyindabira. I was sponsored through ICCM from grade three until I graduated from high school. During that time, I received many gifts and support from my sponsor. My father used to explain to me and my brothers how the sponsorship was helping our family.
I received Busoma [a type of grain porridge], and with the financial support, my father was able to buy rice and meat for the family. I had a small cow, and my brothers raised pigs for breeding. I am grateful to ICCM and the Free Methodist Church of Burundi because, thanks to their encouragement, I was able to complete my education.”

I had an opportunity to study at Hope Africa University, where I earned a degree in Civil Engineering. Today, my duty is to build and rehabilitate roads and bridges in support of my country. I also serve as the men’s team leader in my parish. I am married with three children: two boys and one girl. I assist two orphans in the community by supplying school materials and school fees, and I pray for them to become important people in the future and support others.”

Marc’s father says: “I remember the former National Coordinator visiting our home. We had a cow, pigs, and chickens not only for our sons’ breeding projects but also to support our entire family. I used to write and reply letters on behalf of my sons to and from their sponsors.
I was able to pay their school fees and sustain our family thanks to ICCM. I have ten children. Those who were sponsored were able to attend school, and with the support I received, I was also able to educate the others.
Without ICCM, I may not have been able to educate all my children. Today, Marc and Jeredie are civil engineers, and Zebedee is a pastor serving in Shoma, in the Gitega Annual Conference, Kibuye Center.
I am truly grateful to ICCM and the Church. Thank you for the support that made a great difference and brought smiles to our family, especially to our children. GOD BLESS YOU AND THE MINISTRY!”
