One of the foundations of the Free Methodist movement is social justice. John Wesley was passionate about social justice and as he preached to
the masses it became clear that this foundation was not just for one specific generation of believers but would be a foundation for many generations to come. Today social justice is still a very important component of the Free Methodist movement and is one of the building blocks of the International Child Care Ministries.

In 1966, Free Methodist minister and missionary Dr. Alton Gould began what would become a growing ministry to children around the world. He initiated his ministry by opening the door for Free Methodists to aid children in the Hong Kong roof top schools. As his vision grew, his ministry expanded to include children living in hostels in India; and eventually after visiting a mission field in Africa, also extended the program to those children in desolation. Today, 44 years later, his vision to see children’s lives changed, has become reality. ICCM now partners with 28 countries worldwide; clothing, feeding and educating thousands of children daily.

As ICCM expanded to Canada in 1983, Vivian Hyndman became the first Canadian Director. Her passion and love for the children was evident as she served for 26 years faithfully.

In 2009, Paula Moriarity was appointed as the new director and her passion is to see the Canadian Free Methodist churches partner with children around the world.
